I definitely care too much about what others think of me. I drive myself crazy with thoughts about what impact I leave on others. I make my own little problems a lot bigger just because I say myself that I need to do things because of others. I simply neglect my own feelings because I’m too invested in the thoughts about others and how I can make everyone around me happy.
I guess, I’m not the only one who struggles with those destructive thoughts. It’s crucial that we learn to handle them correctly and I hope that some of these tips can help you with trying to focus more on yourself than on others.
1. Nobody’s Perfect
Everyone has some flaws and we often forget that not only we but also all the others make errors. Just think a minute about it: we care about how the people around us are judging our actions but exactly those people are not perfect too. We all are humans and just keep in mind that they probably also worry about what others think of them.
2. Life Is Too Short
Life is too short to worry about others. Whenever I realise that I’m already in my twenties I’m shocked how time flies by. Life is too short to waste your precious time with going crazy about others. Try to invest more time into the good moments and don’t overanalyse things.
3. Welcome Uncertainty And Insecurity
I’m really trying hard to implement this advice into reality. I not only care too much but I’m also quite an anxious person. Not in a way that the anxiety blocks me in my daily life but more that I invest too many thoughts in what could happen. Like for example when I plan my holiday I think about what I’m going to do if I get sick. And in the end, I don’t get the cold and I can enjoy my vacation to the fullest. So all the time invested in those thoughts is useless. Therefore, try to embrace uncertainty and don’t be afraid of insecurity. Take some risks and do something new, something which you wouldn’t have thought of.
4. Don’t Be Afraid To Make Mistakes
This point is very similar to the one above. It’s more about that you are not able to plan your future in every detail. You never know what tomorrow brings. Just go along and focus more on yourself and your feelings in the moment.
5. People Don’t Really Care About You
Of course, your family and close friends do care about you, sometimes more than you even know. But I’m talking about the people who you’re working with or going to school or university. People who are not that important to you. We need to let those thoughts go and invest more time in ourselves. A fellow student tends to be really harsh and makes sometimes mean comments. Unfortunately, I take them too personal when I shouldn’t care at all. Differentiating between the friends who are really important and the ones that may let you feel bad is a very major step.
Keep in mind that when you start stopping to worry about what others think then you’re able to put all this energy into your own actions.
Don’t be careless, but care less.
